My name is Jon Matzke and this coming year will be my 16th year as 6th grade teacher and athletic director at King of Grace Lutheran School. I also coach 7th and 8th grade volleyball in the fall and baseball in the spring. My wife, Katie, and I have a nine year old son named Ben, who is in 4th grade at King of Grace, and six year old daughter named Aubrey, who is in kindergarten.
I grew up on a small farm near a town called Good Thunder (8 miles south of Mankato) where we raised beef cattle and hogs. I am fond of my farming roots as it was where I learned many life lessons. My brother continues to run the family farm and I still enjoy going there to help out when I can. I also enjoy outdoor sports (biking, running, hunting, and fishing) in my spare time.
I attended Bethany Lutheran College from 1994 – 1996 where I received my Associates degree. I enjoyed singing in the choir and playing intramural sports while there. I continued my education at Minnesota State of Mankato (which used to be called Mankato State when I was there) where I received my Elementary Education degree with a concentration in general science.
King of Grace is a wonderful place to come to work everyday. I truly love teaching and sharing, on a daily basis, the love of God and the salvation that Jesus bought for us. I have seen many students and their families change and grow in their faith as a result of our school and I am honored to be a part of it.
